Gospel in Old Testament
The Gospel begins all the way back in Genesis chapters 1-3.

God created everything perfect (Genesis 1:31). His only command to Adam and Eve was to NOT eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (2:17). If they did the consequence was death.

Satan twisted God’s words and deceived Adam and Eve into eating from the tree (3:1,4). Their disobedience, which broke their relationship with God, is known as the Fall and sin.

However, instead of Adam and Eve receiving the punishment of death, God showed them grace by allowing them to live. But not without severe consequences to them and all humanity (Genesis 3:17-19,24).
The First Gospel Proclamation
God told Adam and Eve that one day a Saviour would come and defeat Satan:
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel.
Genesis 3:15
The Law
As humanity awaited the promised saviour, God provided his people (Israel) the Law by which to live. The Law can be found in books such as Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy (30:15-16). Further to the well known 10 Commandments, the Law required continued rituals and sacrifices, which had to be done at certain times and seasons. Israel, and anyone else who wanted to be made right with God, was expected to keep the Law in its entirety in order to demonstrate their faithfulness to God.
