Clear Your Head
2 minute read
Have you heard people say that someone is living ‘rent free in their head’? In other words, a particular individual has so gotten under someones skin, they spend far too long thinking about this individual for all the wrong reasons!
My question to you is who is living rent free in your head? God or Satan? Read the following verse to help you answer that question:
…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things…
Philippians 4:8
Satan doesn’t want us to dwell on any of the things God wants us to. Satan, the father of lies (John 8:44), will constantly spew his lies and hatred into your mind. The Bible tells us to resist the devil and he will flee (James 4:7), BUT to draw near to God and He will draw near to you (James 4:8). The devil is weak, God is mighty. Who do you want influencing you every day?
Does that mean we can’t have negative thoughts. Well, we have to be realistic don’t we. Life throws many difficulties at us, and we need to consider how to deal with them. But how quickly (and how low) do we allow our thoughts to sink before we turn to the Lord and ask Him for help?
Consider Judas Iscariot. He walked with Jesus, was personally discipled by Jesus and witnessed His miracles. Yet, his greed (John 12:6) got the better of him. At the Last Supper we see that Satan entered his heart (John 13:2), then entered Judas himself (John 13:27).
So, clean up your mind and don’t let your thoughts betray you, nor cause you to act in a manner unworthy of the Lord. Instead take every thought captive (2 Cor 10:5) and don’t give Satan a foothold to live rent free in your head!
